Struggling Through My Shortcut
Today I had an epiphany while walking to class. Simply stated: I hate paths... which is weird, because I love structure . But actual sidewalks that tell you where to walk... I hate them. If there's a way to cut through and take a short cut through the grass, I do. And I'm constantly making my own paths.
Now, when I realized today that I was straying away from every sidewalk I encountered, I started to think about it as a metaphor for my life because I don't always stay on the straight and narrow path.. sometimes I do stray. And I'm not afraid to admit this because this blog is not to show how great and wonderful my life is... its to show you that my life is real and I encounter struggles every day just like the average person. And not only does it talk about struggles I face, but it shows how I deal with the things I face, and it's supposed to help you see that there's good in everything.. even crumby situations.
But back to my sidewalk dilemma (yeah I know I get off topic sometimes, it's my inner rambler being released)... but the point of sidewalks is to protect you. They are there so you don't get run over by cars. They are there so you don't step on hazardous roots from trees or other dangerous things. They are there to guide you to a destination. Paths or sidewalks are only there to help. I have to really think about staying on the path in everyday life just like I have to in my spiritual life. God guides you down His path just like a sidewalk would guide you to a destination. God protects you if you follow His path. And just to be clear - it's ok to take shortcuts when your late for class... but in your spiritual life, it's either God's way or no way, so don't take the shortcuts!
...funny how one little thought can go so deep.
Verse for the day:
"Don't look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don't fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.
- Matthew 7:13-14 (The Message)
