Feeling Morose in the Mundane

I had a friend recently comment that, if given the chance, she would love to be a traveling missionary. I thought, “How cool would that be?”. Traveling, seeing the world, sharing Jesus and Gods word with people you’ve never met before.

I immediately started praying God would use me in really cool ways.

But then, as God always does so beautifully - he humbled me. Brought me right out of my daydream and back to my (not so elaborate) reality....

my daughter, I am using you.

I am using you in all the ways you’re too busy to see. When you fold the laundry, when you do the dishes, when you prepare meals, when you clean your home, when you reach out to a friend, when you call your mom to check in, when you comfort your baby, when you pick up the toys on the living room floor for the 100th time, when you care for your pets, when you get on the floor with your daughter to play, when you kiss your husband after a long day of work, when you teach your students about my Word, when you speak to your neighbor, when you read my Word, when you come to me with your worries, when you lay your sins at my feet, when you teach your daughter about the world I created, when you read bedtime stories.....

All these little things may seem monotonous to you, but to me, they are the big things. They are the things I created you for. To use the talents I blessed you with, to help you grow, and learn, and flourish - so you can point people back to Me.

Ahhh, His words so sweetly spoken to my soul. So often, I get caught up in mundane tasks, thinking to myself, “how does this glorify God?”  But let me tell you, with the right attitude and your mind set on Christ - it does. Oh, does it ever.

Fold the laundry with love. Talk to your parents with kindness. Feed the dog with joy. Calm your crying little one with patience.  Study Gods Word because of your faithfulness and teach others what you learn in gentleness. You get the idea...

Sometimes, it would be nice to travel somewhere and teach others about Gods love, but we forget that Gods work is often done right in our very homes - in the simple, not so glamorous, everyday tasks.
