Little Nuggets

So I made the decision to read the whole Bible again this year. It was a challenge I gave myself in 2015 and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I decided this year it was going to be SO important for me to stay in the word daily since I am a new mom navigating motherhood. My life, now, not only affects me, it affects my daughter too - every emotion I feel, every reaction I have, and every word I say. She may be little - but she’s watching, she’s learning, she’s imitating and soaking in every little thing I do. Scary right?!

I’d love to tell you that during my maternity leave I have scrubbed every baseboard in my house, organized every drawer, and solved the equation for meal planning and prepping - but, oh, how God must laugh at me when I have plans. I have spent most of my maternity leave breastfeeding my baby girl on the couch and in the bed, changing blowouts I had no idea such a small baby could make, and trying to remember the last time I ate or drank something. It’s quite a glamorous life *cue chuckling here*. But I’ll tell you a secret, I have seen God more since the moment I went into labor than I have most of my life and I know why. It’s because this thing I’m doing now requires more strength, more diligence, more intellect, more perseverance, more of everything than I actually have to give. But God has it - and I’ve been asking him for little slivers of it each day.

So you may ask, “How will you read through the Bible in a year with a baby? Will you be able to stay on track?” Here’s my plan... I’m using the Bible app and a plan they have called “let’s read the Bible together”. It doesn’t read it front to back, instead, it reads it in relatable segments. And since most of my time is spent in a seated position - what better way to spend my time (while nursing a baby) than diving into His word!

One of the first nuggets I read was in Luke. Luke chapter 1 verse 17 “And he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.”

And this led me to Malachi chapter 4 verse 6 “His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.”

Do you see the goodness God gave me on the first day I decided to read through the Bible again? Let me just tell you! I acknowledged that I fall short everyday and need to be in the word DAILY. When I got in the word, Jesus showed me that this choice I made is turning my heart to my daughter, so she can see Christ through me consistently. And, so that one day, she will be prepared, through Christ, to do the same thing for her children. How is that for a little nugget of goodness?

I pray that everyday I will choose my daughter over social media, material items, and worldly things. I pray I can show her the love Jesus has for her and help her find the gifts and talents he has blessed her with. I pray that we both stay in the word consistently so we can be prepared, through Christ, to be the mothers, daughters, and wives He has designed us to be. And let me encourage you, dear friend, I am praying these same things for you too.

xoxo - A
